Tesla launches the North American version of the Model Y L with updated thermal management and battery tech

Tesla has officially launched the North American version of the Model Y L, a vehicle designed with a focus on family-oriented features. The North American model features a 100S battery pack, which utilizes 100 cells in series to achieve a higher voltage of approximately 420 volts. This configuration differs from the Chinese version, reflecting Tesla's ongoing optimization of its manufacturing processes. A key technical advancement in the Model Y L is the second-generation super manifold, which integrates a larger stack plate heat exchanger and a new receiver. This system significantly improves cooling capacity, which is essential for managing the vehicle's third-row seating and overall thermal efficiency. The vehicle also features a new alloy structure that facilitates easier manufacturing through brazing. While the Model Y L is marketed as a family-friendly vehicle, it is limited to a six-seat configuration, which is a notable departure from the seven-seat layout found in the standard Model Y. The vehicle is expected to go on sale in the United States and Puerto Rico in September, with initial deliveries beginning shortly thereafter.
