DJI releases Osmo Pocket 4P with dual-lens system

The new DJI Osmo Pocket 4P adds a 3x telephoto lens to the company's compact vlogging camera line, though it will not be available in the United States.

DJI has expanded its vlogging camera lineup with the launch of the Osmo Pocket 4P, a device that introduces a dual-lens system to the familiar compact form factor. The primary addition is a 3x telephoto lens, equivalent to 60mm, which sits above the main camera. While the device shares the same body, controls, and flip-out touchscreen as the standard Pocket 4, the gimbal and lens assembly is noticeably larger, resulting in a total weight of 230g—approximately 40g heavier than its predecessor.

The new telephoto lens features a 1/1.28-inch sensor and a fast f/1.8 aperture, allowing for a compressed background and optical bokeh. It supports 4K landscape or 3K portrait recording, along with 37-megapixel stills. While the camera is capable of reaching 12x zoom, reviewers note that image quality begins to degrade beyond 6x, with footage becoming soft and losing detail. The main camera has also received updates, including a new sensor that offers up to 17 stops of dynamic range and support for 10-bit D-Log 2 color profiles.

Performance remains a strong point, with the gimbal providing stable footage even in challenging conditions. However, users may notice a brief judder and occasional color shifts when switching between the two lenses during recording. The main camera continues to perform well in most lighting, though it still faces limitations in very dark environments. The increased size of the camera head means it is slightly less portable than the standard Pocket 4, and the exposed lens design, which lacks a traditional gimbal clamp, raises potential concerns regarding long-term durability.

Availability for the Osmo Pocket 4P is restricted to international markets, with no plans for a United States release. In Europe, the Standard Combo is priced at £529 or €599, while the more comprehensive Vlog Combo, which includes a tripod and the DJI Mic Mini 2, retails for £605 or €689. The launch follows recent regulatory scrutiny regarding DJI's operations in the U.S., which has also impacted the availability of similar third-party alternatives.
