Nvidia has officially refuted claims that it is discontinuing the GeForce RTX 5090, the flagship model in its current Blackwell-based graphics card lineup. Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of Nvidia's personal computing business, addressed the rumors during the RTX Spark launch event in Taipei on October 16. Fisher stated that while the company is navigating significant supply chain limitations, the RTX 5090 remains a core product that will continue to ship to markets.

The clarification follows widespread speculation that emerged after the GPU vanished from Nvidia’s own online marketplace and major retail outlets like Micro Center. Industry reports had previously suggested that Nvidia was shifting its allocation of GB202 silicon away from consumer graphics cards to prioritize workstation-grade hardware, such as the RTX PRO 6000 and RTX PRO 5500 series. These rumors were further fueled by claims from leakers and industry observers who noted that board partners had stopped receiving fresh shipments of the GB202 chips required for the RTX 5090.

Fisher acknowledged that the supply chain is currently constrained, describing the situation as a global issue affecting the broader technology industry. He emphasized that Nvidia is working to bring products to market, though he did not provide specific details regarding when board partners might expect a resumption of regular chip deliveries. The executive also reiterated the importance of the GeForce brand to Nvidia’s overall business operations.

Despite the official denial, the RTX 5090 remains difficult to acquire at its suggested retail price of $1,999. Market scarcity has driven prices significantly higher, with some third-party listings on platforms like Amazon and Newegg exceeding $8,000. It remains unclear how quickly Nvidia can resolve the production bottlenecks or when the card might return to standard retail availability for consumers.
