Valve has updated its Steam Machine platform to include support for AMD’s FSR 4.1 upscaling technology. The feature is currently available through the Proton Experimental layer, allowing users to leverage the upscaler in games that already support the FSR Upgrade function on Windows. This integration ensures that the same upscaling capabilities available on desktop PCs are now accessible to Steam Machine owners via SteamOS.

In addition to the software update, Valve has released official CAD files for the Steam Machine’s external geometry. These files, provided under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-Sharealike 4.0 International license, allow users to design and create custom accessories, such as faceplates. While the files enable non-commercial modifications, Valve explicitly prohibits the sale of any products derived from these designs.

Valve’s engineering team has cautioned users regarding the risks of modifying the hardware. The company noted that any damage resulting from user-led modifications will not be covered under the system's warranty. Pierre-Loup Griffais, an engineer at Valve, advised that users should leave physical modifications to professionals to avoid potential hardware failure or personal injury.

Regarding system availability, Valve confirmed that all current Steam Machine reservations are expected to be fulfilled by the end of 2026. The company maintains a distinct reservation list and a separate waitlist. Customers who have reserved a system will receive an email notification and have a 72-hour window to complete their purchase; failure to do so results in removal from the queue. Waitlist customers will only be moved to the reservation list once all initial reservations have been processed.
