Samsung Electronics has officially entered the financial services market with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Card. Developed in partnership with Barclays, the new credit card is designed to function as a standard Visa product while providing specific incentives for users within the Samsung ecosystem. The card will be available for applications starting July 22, coinciding with the company's scheduled Galaxy Unpacked event.
The rewards structure for the Galaxy Card is tiered based on purchase category. Users earn 5% cash rewards on all in-store or online purchases made directly through Samsung in the United States. Transactions processed via Samsung Wallet earn 3% cash rewards, while purchases at select streaming services, including Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify, earn 2%. All other purchases qualify for a 1% cash reward rate. Additionally, new cardholders are eligible for a $200 bonus after spending $2,000 within the first 90 days of account opening.
Integration with Samsung Wallet serves as the primary interface for the card. According to Barclays, the Galaxy Card is a digital wallet-native product, meaning it does not require a separate banking application for account management. Upon approval, the card is immediately available for use within the Samsung Wallet app, which also manages digital keys, identification, and other passes. Samsung will also provide a physical black metal card to users.
The card includes specific benefits for Samsung customers, such as special financing options for Galaxy devices and a 20% discount on the Samsung VIP Advantage membership. There is no annual fee associated with the account. The launch arrives as Samsung prepares to showcase its latest hardware, with industry expectations pointing toward new foldable smartphone models at the upcoming Unpacked event.
