Samsung is updating its Health application to make sleep coaching more accessible by lowering the amount of data required to begin the program. Previously, users needed a full week of consecutive sleep data within a single month to unlock the feature. With the latest update, owners of a Galaxy Watch 4 or newer, the Galaxy Fit 3, or the Galaxy Ring can now initiate the coaching process using only three days of sleep data collected over the past two weeks.
To begin the coaching, users must complete a survey regarding their sleep habits, including information on sleep regularity, nighttime interruptions, and their typical intake of caffeine and alcohol. The app also asks users to self-report their satisfaction with their sleep quality. By combining these survey responses with the three days of tracked data, the system assigns a personalized Sleep Animal symbol and generates a customized four- to eight-week program tailored to the user's specific goals.
The coaching program includes daily habit checklists and actionable tips, such as advice on limiting screen time or caffeine consumption before bed. As the program progresses, the app dynamically adjusts its weekly recommendations based on the user's evolving sleep patterns. Users can also view a new five-sided Sleep Balance graph that visualizes sleep time, regularity, wakefulness, satisfaction, and an Energy Score to help identify areas where they might improve their rest.
In addition to the sleep-focused updates, Samsung is expanding the capabilities of its Running Coach app to support a broader range of fitness levels. The platform has increased its training tiers from 10 to 12, providing more challenging benchmarks for intermediate and advanced runners. The update also introduces enhanced social sharing features for personal records and route highlights to encourage community engagement.
The integration with the fitness platform Strava represents a significant addition for outdoor enthusiasts. Users can now import their preferred running, trail running, and cycling routes directly from Strava into the Samsung Health app. These new features for both sleep and fitness tracking are scheduled to begin rolling out to users throughout the month of October.
