Microsoft has officially moved Windows 11 version 26H2 into the Release Preview channel, allowing Windows Insiders to begin testing the upcoming annual feature update. The build, identified as 26300.9278, is currently available for users who manually check for updates through the Windows Update settings menu.
The update is delivered as an enablement package, or eKB, which reflects the fact that version 26H2 shares a common servicing branch with versions 24H2 and 25H2. Because of this shared architecture, many of the features included in the new version have already been introduced to users through previous monthly updates. Microsoft noted that this approach allows for a more streamlined transition for systems already running recent versions of the operating system.
For commercial customers, the release enables several specific experiences that were previously present in the system but not active by default. These include enhancements to File Explorer, new app-specific actions accessible from the taskbar, and expanded Windows settings backup capabilities. IT administrators can begin validating these features across their organizations using Windows Update client policies and Windows Server Update Services.
While the update is currently accessible through the seeker experience in Windows Update, Microsoft confirmed that official ISO files for version 26H2 will be made available on the Windows Insider Program download site in the near term. The company has not yet provided a specific date for the general availability of the update, though industry observers anticipate a stable release following a preview period.
Users enrolled in the Release Preview channel who choose to install the update will continue to receive standard monthly servicing updates automatically. Microsoft has advised that commercial organizations encountering issues during the validation process can utilize standard Microsoft Support channels for assistance.
