Halo: Campaign Evolved, a comprehensive remake of the 2001 classic Halo: Combat Evolved, is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. This release marks a significant technical departure for the franchise, as it abandons the proprietary Slispace Engine in favor of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. The game, which had been in early access for Premium Edition owners since July 23, is the first entry in the series to launch on a PlayStation platform.

The remake introduces several gameplay modifications, including the ability for players to sprint and the inclusion of weapons previously seen in Halo 2 and Halo 3, such as the Covenant energy sword. Halo Studios has also implemented a third-person camera mode, which players can unlock by locating the Perspective skull within the Pillar of Autumn mission. Additionally, the campaign now supports cooperative play for up to four players, with adjusted vehicle and weapon spawns to accommodate the increased player count.

Technical enhancements are a primary focus of this release. On PC, the game includes built-in support for DLSS Super Resolution, DLSS Frame Generation, and NVIDIA Reflex. Users with the NVIDIA app can further upgrade to DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. For PlayStation 5 Pro users, the game leverages PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) and supports the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Nvidia has released the WHQL-certified GeForce Game Ready 610.88 driver to coincide with the launch. This driver addresses specific stability issues, including crashes previously observed on RTX 50 Series GPUs. The update also includes support for the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer beta, which is scheduled to begin on August 6.

Beyond the core campaign, the remake features a total of 42 collectible skulls that modify gameplay. Collecting three of these unlocks the Campaign Remix mode, which randomizes enemy encounters and weapon placements. The package also introduces Operation: Meteorite, a set of three new missions that serve as a prequel to the events of the original game.
