Google has officially launched Gemini integration for the Chrome browser on Android, bringing AI-powered browsing tools to mobile users across the United States. The update allows users to access a floating chat interface directly within the browser by tapping the Gemini icon or the three-dot menu located on the top toolbar. This rollout follows the earlier introduction of similar features on the Chrome desktop browser and iOS.
The integration provides several utility-focused tools, including the ability to summarize long web articles and answer specific questions about content on a page. Users can also connect the browser to other Google services, such as Calendar and Keep, enabling them to save information or schedule events without needing to switch between different applications. Additionally, the browser now supports image generation through the Nano Banana tool.
For users subscribed to Google’s AI Pro or AI Ultra plans, the update includes an agentic feature known as auto browse. This capability allows the browser to perform multi-step tasks autonomously, such as navigating websites, filling out forms, and clicking links to complete processes like booking event tickets or managing online orders. Google notes that the system is designed to handle these tasks while requiring explicit user confirmation for sensitive actions, such as processing payments.
To ensure security, Google has implemented safeguards within the Gemini interface to detect common threats, including prompt injections. The company emphasizes that these features are built with security in mind, though users are encouraged to exercise caution when utilizing agentic AI for complex tasks. Access to these features requires a device running Android 12 or higher with a minimum of 4GB of RAM.
While the standard Gemini features are available to all Android users in the US, access for those using work or school Google accounts must be enabled by an administrator. Google has not yet provided a specific timeline for when these capabilities, particularly the auto browse functionality, will be expanded to users outside of the United States.
