Commodore announces Commodore 77 special edition inspired by Cyberpunk 2077

Commodore has announced the Commodore 77, a special edition of its Commodore 64 Ultimate computer created in collaboration with CD Projekt Red. The device features a design inspired by the aesthetic of Cyberpunk 2077, including a smoked gray translucent case, graffiti tags, and a custom neon power light that pulses in time with audio playback.

Under the hood, the Commodore 77 utilizes an AMD Artix XC7A100T processor, an upgrade over the 50T model found in the standard Commodore 64 Ultimate. This hardware change allows the system to reach speeds of 77 MHz, a significant increase over the 1 MHz clock speed of the original 1982 hardware. The unit remains an FPGA-powered recreation, maintaining compatibility with over 10,000 existing Commodore 64 games and peripherals.

The system includes an exclusive non-interactive demo created by the Polish demo group Arise, featuring a soundtrack by chiptune artist LukHash. This demo is delivered on a custom cartridge designed to resemble the "shards" from the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. The software leverages the Commodore 77's enhanced capabilities, including 24-channel stereo SID chip music and a 2 megabyte cartridge chip.

Beyond the hardware, the package includes themed accessories such as stickers, pins, and a spiral-bound user guide containing lore and BASIC programs. The computer also features a custom BASIC 2.0 boot screen and modified menu colors to match the Cyberpunk theme. This release marks the first franchise hardware partnership in Commodore's 68-year history.

The Commodore 77 is available for pre-order starting today through the official Commodore website for $377. While the company has confirmed that shipping is expected to begin in early 2027, a specific release date has not yet been finalized.
