Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 27.2, providing an early look at the company's completely redesigned Health app. First previewed at Apple's September event, the update shifts the platform from a passive data repository to an active, intelligent health hub. The new interface is organized around two primary sections: an Insights tab for daily metrics and a Longevity tab for long-term health tracking.
The Insights tab aggregates recent data such as activity rings, heart rate, sleep scores, and vitals. For users with an Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4, the app now calculates a readiness score based on recent activity, sleep, and overnight vitals to help guide daily exertion levels. While currently limited in its initial beta form, Apple plans to add personalized summaries and guidance to this tab in future updates.
The Longevity tab introduces a Health Age feature, which estimates a user's biological age by analyzing metrics like VO2 max, sleep duration, and heart rate variability. This score can be further refined by uploading lab results or, eventually, by ordering a $119 laboratory panel directly through Quest Diagnostics. The tab also hosts new movement assessments designed to measure flexibility, strength, and balance, which Apple describes as a form of at-home physical evaluation.
These movement assessments utilize vision-based machine learning models that leverage the iPhone camera, marking a first for Apple's health software. According to Dr. Sumbul Desai, Apple's VP of Health and Fitness, these assessments were developed with input from physical therapists to ensure the grading of movements aligns with clinical standards. The app also plans to feature dynamic, expert-led video and written commentary tailored to individual user data.
The redesigned Health app is currently available only to developers and testers running the iOS 27.2 beta. Apple has confirmed that the app will not be included in the initial iOS 27.2 public release but is scheduled to launch for all users before the end of 2026. Features will continue to roll out progressively throughout the beta testing period as the company refines the experience based on user feedback.
Beyond the Health app, the iOS 27.2 developer beta includes several other system improvements. These include expanded Siri AI localization for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, as well as the addition of dual-camera capture for group FaceTime calls. Additionally, users can now access and manage Apple TV profiles directly within the iOS settings.
