The firmware, identified as GFX 11.7, has been upstreamed to the linux-firmware repository, allowing Linux distributions to integrate the necessary support into their driver stacks ahead of the hardware's retail debut.
The RDNA 4m architecture occupies a unique position in AMD's current roadmap, bridging the gap between the existing RDNA 3.5 graphics found in current APUs and the full-scale RDNA 4 architecture. While standard RDNA 4 utilizes the GFX 12.0 architecture ID, RDNA 4m is designated as GFX 11.7. This specific iteration is widely expected to power the upcoming Zen 6-based Medusa Point APUs, which are designed for mobile platforms.
Technical documentation and previous driver patches indicate that AMD has been preparing for this release for several months. The company previously added GFX 1170, 1171, and 1172 targets to the AMDGPU LLVM compiler, suggesting that multiple configurations of the RDNA 4m architecture are currently in development.
