Acer has showcased its Project DualPlay Mini, a concept gaming handheld that attempts to combine the portability of a dedicated gaming device with the utility of a compact laptop. The prototype utilizes a distinctive flip-and-swivel design, allowing the screen to rotate 180 degrees and fold over an integrated, backlit QWERTY keyboard. This mechanism enables users to switch between a traditional handheld gaming configuration and a mini-laptop mode suitable for productivity tasks.
In its handheld state, the device functions similarly to other Windows-based gaming PCs, featuring standard analog sticks, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, and shoulder triggers. When transitioned to laptop mode, the keyboard is revealed, though the device lacks a built-in trackpad, requiring users to connect a standalone mouse for navigation. The system also supports external display connectivity for a more conventional desktop experience.
While Acer has not disclosed full technical specifications for the Project DualPlay Mini, the company confirmed the device is Intel-powered and utilizes a dual-fan cooling architecture similar to its Predator Atlas 8 handheld. This cooling system consists of one plastic fan and one metal fan, with the latter featuring slightly thinner blades in this specific concept model. Connectivity options include at least two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The device features a purple finish with circuit board-style graphics and includes a decorative Morse code element on the back cover that reads “Acer 50 since 1976,” commemorating the company’s upcoming 50th anniversary. Despite the functional design, Acer has emphasized that the Project DualPlay Mini remains a concept product. There is currently no confirmed release date, pricing, or indication that the device will enter mass production.
The announcement occurred alongside updates for Acer’s broader hardware lineup, including the upcoming Predator Atlas 7 handheld. Unlike the DualPlay Mini, the Atlas 7 is a production-ready device scheduled for a November 2026 release. It is set to feature an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM, and a 7-inch 1080p display with a 120Hz refresh rate, positioning it as a more immediate entry in the company’s gaming portfolio.
