Xodus project aims to bring native Xbox Game Pass support to Linux devices

The Xodus project is an early-stage initiative designed to enable the download and execution of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox PC games on Linux-based hardware, including the Steam Deck. Currently, the project has successfully implemented device login, user authentication, and the ability to download and decrypt MSIXVC game packages. While these milestones represent significant progress, the software is not yet capable of launching or playing these titles. The development team is now shifting its focus toward building a game SDK to facilitate actual gameplay. The project specifically targets Microsoft’s Game Development Kit (GDK) titles, which may limit initial compatibility with older Universal Windows Platform (UWP) games. By bypassing the requirement for a native Windows operating system, Xodus seeks to provide a more seamless experience than current cloud-streaming alternatives. Although no official release timeline exists, the project represents a potential shift in how Linux users access the Xbox ecosystem, moving away from cloud-based reliance toward native, offline-capable game management.

The Xodus project is a community-led effort to bring Xbox Game Pass and PC titles to Linux. Developers have successfully enabled user login, Xbox authorization, and the downloading of encrypted game packages.

The project is currently in an early development phase and cannot yet launch or play games. Future development is focused on creating a game SDK to ensure compatibility and execution on Linux.

The initiative primarily targets GDK-based games, which may exclude some older UWP titles from support. This project aims to provide a native alternative to cloud streaming for Xbox Game Pass on handhelds.
