Samsung has officially entered the open-ear audio market with the launch of the Galaxy Buds On. Unlike the company’s traditional in-ear models, these earbuds utilize a clip-on design that rests around the outer ear, leaving the ear canal unobstructed. This configuration is intended to provide users with situational awareness, allowing them to hear ambient sounds while listening to audio, which Samsung suggests is particularly beneficial for outdoor activities and workouts.

To ensure comfort during extended wear, Samsung states it analyzed extensive data regarding various ear shapes to optimize the placement of internal components. The device features an ergonomic structure with a widened contact area designed to distribute pressure evenly across the ear, while the flexible band is tuned to maintain a secure fit during movement. Users can manage playback and calls through touch controls located on the back of the earbuds.

The audio architecture is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform paired with a Class-D amplifier. Samsung has implemented a system it calls TwinBoost speakers to enhance low-frequency performance, a common challenge for open-ear designs. Additionally, the earbuds include an Audio Leakage Reduction feature intended to prevent sound from escaping in quiet environments, alongside automatic volume adjustment that reacts to the user's surroundings.

For communication, the Galaxy Buds On utilize three microphones and a bone-conduction-based voice pickup sensor. This hardware, combined with machine learning, powers the Intelligent Clear Call feature, which is designed to isolate the wearer's voice from background noise. The earbuds are rated for up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on a single charge.

When paired with compatible Galaxy AI devices, the earbuds offer several advanced features. Users can access Gemini Live for hands-free conversations or use a long-press gesture to record voice memos, which can subsequently be searched via Bixby. The device also supports head gestures, enabling users to answer or end calls, dismiss alarms, or check notifications through specific head movements.

The Galaxy Buds On are scheduled to launch in South Korea on October 27, 2026, with a retail price of 299,000 won, approximately $220. While Samsung has confirmed plans for a wider global rollout, the company has not yet provided specific dates or pricing for other international markets.
