Raspberry Pi has introduced the Compute Module 5 Programming Jig, a specialized hardware tool designed to streamline the manufacturing process for developers building products around the Compute Module 5. The device functions as a single-head provisioning system, allowing users to flash operating systems and apply security configurations to the module without the need for a custom carrier board.

The jig utilizes a mechanical clamping mechanism to secure the Compute Module 5, relying on pogo pins to establish a reliable electrical interface. This design is intended to simplify repeatable provisioning, as developers only need to insert the module and engage the clamp to initiate the automated process. Status LEDs provide immediate visual feedback on the progress of the firmware flashing and programming tasks.

Connectivity options on the unit include a Gigabit Ethernet port for network integration, a secondary Ethernet port dedicated to the module under test, and Wi-Fi support with an external antenna. A USB-C port is also available for manual software updates to the jig itself. The system is powered via a 12V/2A DC barrel jack and weighs approximately 1,796 grams, with dimensions measuring 181.5 by 170 by 153 millimeters.

Software integration is a core component of the system, which is built upon Raspberry Pi OS. Developers can utilize the Raspberry Pi Imager tool to load the necessary OS onto the jig. For more complex production requirements, the open-source rpi-sb-provisioner software enables the automation of secure boot implementation, full disk encryption, and bare operating system installation.

Because the web interface for the provisioning software is restricted to localhost for security purposes, the system supports Raspberry Pi Connect for remote screen sharing and SSH access. This allows developers to manage the provisioning workflow, configure security modes, and handle signing keys through a centralized interface. The programming jig is available for purchase immediately through the company's global network of approved resellers for $600.
