Raspberry Pi has expanded its display lineup with the launch of the Raspberry Pi Touch Display 2 – 10″ Portrait. This 10.1-inch IPS TFT panel is designed for interactive projects such as digital signage, home automation dashboards, and robotics interfaces. It joins the existing 5-inch and 7-inch models in the Touch Display 2 series, offering a larger active area of 135.4 mm by 216.6 mm.
The display features a 1200 x 1920 pixel resolution and a 400 cd/m2 backlight brightness. A significant upgrade over the smaller variants is the inclusion of a ten-finger capacitive touch controller, which improves upon the five-finger support found in the 5-inch and 7-inch models. The screen includes an anti-glare surface treatment and provides an 85-degree viewing angle.
Compatibility is restricted to the Raspberry Pi 5 and Raspberry Pi Compute Modules paired with a suitable carrier board. Unlike previous displays that utilized two-lane DSI communication, this 10-inch model requires four DSI lanes to handle its higher resolution. Consequently, it is not compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4 or earlier models, nor the Raspberry Pi Zero series.
Installation involves connecting the display to the host board via a ribbon cable for the DSI port and a power cable for the GPIO header. Raspberry Pi OS provides out-of-the-box support for the hardware, including automatic recognition of the touchscreen and on-screen keyboard. Users can toggle between mouse emulation and native multi-touch modes directly through the operating system's Control Centre.
The display is currently available through Raspberry Pi approved resellers for $80. While the unit ships with necessary cabling and mounting hardware, it does not include a dedicated enclosure. Early testing indicates that the display supports various orientation modes, including landscape and portrait, though users should ensure their Raspberry Pi OS is updated to avoid potential synchronization issues between the display rotation and touch input.
