Nvidia has launched its second-generation DLSS Ray Reconstruction technology, bringing updated AI-driven denoising to all GeForce RTX graphics cards. Announced earlier this year at Computex 2026, the DLSS 4.5 update is designed to improve image quality in ray-traced and path-traced games by replacing hand-tuned denoisers with a unified transformer model. The technology analyzes temporal and spatial engine data to produce sharper, more stable high-resolution images.

According to Nvidia, the new model features 35% more compute capability and 20% more parameters than its predecessor while maintaining similar performance levels. The company states that the update utilizes more intelligent sampling and motion data to enhance lighting accuracy and clarity. While the technology is intended to provide a cleaner visual output, early testing indicates that the improvements are often subtle, with some users noting only minor differences in fine detail compared to the previous version.

The update is currently available in early access through the Nvidia app, requiring users to install GeForce Game Ready Driver 580.88 WHQL or newer. Once enabled via the app's settings, the feature can be applied to a list of supported titles, including Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, and Hogwarts Legacy. Nvidia plans to transition the technology out of its early access phase for all users sometime in September 2026.

While the update is compatible with all RTX series GPUs, Nvidia has cautioned that older hardware may experience a slight performance penalty when using the new model. In initial evaluations, performance impact on newer cards appeared negligible, though specific visual artifacts were observed in certain game environments. Nvidia recommends using the 'Recommended' or 'Preset F' options within the app to manage the feature globally or on a per-game basis.
