Microsoft has released five new Windows 11 Insider Preview builds across its Beta and Experimental channels. These updates include refreshed security certificates for all participants, which are necessary to ensure devices remain on supported software versions. The company explicitly noted that the current flight certificate is set to expire on August 11, 2026, making it essential for users to update their systems before that date to continue receiving future preview releases.
A significant addition moving from the Experimental channel to the Beta channel is the updated taskbar. Users can now reposition the taskbar to the top, bottom, left, or right sides of their screens via the Taskbar Behaviors menu in the Personalization settings. While core functionality remains, Microsoft indicated that support for touch gestures, the search box, and integrated assistant features in these alternate positions is still in progress. Additionally, auto-hidden and touch-optimized taskbar modes are not currently supported in these new orientations.
The update also introduces a smaller taskbar option designed to maximize screen real estate, particularly on smaller devices. This setting reduces the height of the taskbar and scales down icons while maintaining alignment for the Start menu, search, and system tray. This feature is currently limited to top and bottom taskbar positions. Users can toggle this compact view through the Taskbar size setting within the Personalization menu.
For those in the Experimental channel, Microsoft is testing an adaptive hibernate policy aimed at optimizing power consumption. The policy adjusts hibernation behavior based on battery levels to improve instant-on resume performance from Modern Standby. Under the new logic, the system will hibernate less frequently when the battery charge is above 80 percent, while triggering hibernation sooner when the battery level drops below 10 percent to preserve remaining power.
The five specific builds released include Beta build 26220.9022, Experimental build 26300.9032, Beta (26H1) build 28020.2623, Experimental (26H1) build 28120.2630, and Experimental (Future Platforms) build 29639.1000. These releases represent the latest testing phase for Windows 11 features, with the company continuing to iterate on interface customization and power management efficiency for its user base.
