Google has officially integrated Venmo as a supported payment method within the Google Play Store, providing users with an additional way to manage transactions for apps, games, and digital content. The update allows customers to utilize their existing Venmo balance or any payment cards and bank accounts linked to their Venmo profile to complete purchases directly through the Play Store interface.
The rollout of this feature, which Google announced on August 10, 2026, brings Venmo into the company's existing ecosystem of third-party payment options. This service joins other established alternatives such as PayPal and Cash App Pay, which are already available to users in the United States. Once the account is linked, the payment method can be used across various Google services, including YouTube.
To enable the new payment option, users must navigate to the Google Play Store application and select their profile icon located in the top right corner of the screen. From there, selecting the Payments & subscriptions menu followed by Payment methods will reveal the option to add Venmo. The integration process requires users to authorize the link between their Google and Venmo accounts before the service becomes available for checkout.
This expansion of payment choices arrives as Google continues to adjust its billing policies following legal settlements, including the agreement with Epic Games that opened the Play Store to alternative billing systems in several regions. While these alternative systems allow developers to offer their own payment methods or direct users to external websites, Google noted that these third-party options may not necessarily support Venmo, meaning availability for specific in-app purchases may vary depending on the developer's chosen billing implementation.
