Google launches Fairwind Program for autonomous cyber defense

The new initiative provides government and enterprise partners with access to Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber models to automate vulnerability remediation.

Google has introduced the Fairwind Program, a limited-access initiative designed to provide government agencies, critical infrastructure operators, and core technology platforms with advanced cyber defense capabilities. The program centers on the deployment of Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a specialized model integrated with a toolset called CodeMender to facilitate the autonomous identification and repair of software vulnerabilities.

The primary objective of the Fairwind Program is to reduce the time required for security teams to address system flaws. By utilizing the reasoning capabilities of Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, organizations can generate verified, deployment-ready code patches within their secure cloud environments in minutes, rather than the weeks often required for manual remediation. This approach aims to provide defenders with a tactical advantage against threats that operate at agentic speeds.

Access to these tools is currently restricted to a select group of over 650 global partners. To ensure responsible use of the technology, participating organizations must adhere to strict operational standards. These requirements include limiting access to internal cybersecurity, incident response, and penetration testing personnel, as well as the mandatory implementation of security measures such as multi-factor authentication.

While the Fairwind Program prioritizes access to the specialized 3.8 Flash Cyber model for its partners, Google noted that other Google Cloud customers can still utilize CodeMender. These users can pair the tool with publicly available models hosted on the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform, alongside existing AI Threat Defense solutions, to secure their codebases.

The launch of this program coincides with broader efforts by Google to bolster global cyber resilience. The company also released its 2026 Google.org US Cybersecurity Impact Report, which highlights $36 million in funding directed toward 35 cyber clinics. These clinics have provided hands-on security support to more than 1,250 hospitals, public school districts, and municipal utilities across the United States.
