Google has unveiled a new set of AI-driven study tools integrated into its Gemini assistant and Google Search, aimed at assisting students with research, organization, and exam preparation. The update includes a dedicated student hub within Gemini that provides access to customized flashcards, practice quizzes, and a study notebook feature designed to help users manage class materials and research projects.
The new features allow students to upload various file types, such as PDFs, images, and lecture notes, which the system can then consolidate into one-page reports or study documents. Within Gemini, students can request deep research on specific topics, with the assistant providing notifications once reports are compiled and offering follow-up question-and-answer sessions to clarify findings.
Google Search is also receiving significant educational upgrades, including the ability to generate interactive 3D simulations for complex subjects like science and mathematics. By entering prompts, students can visualize concepts such as the pH scale or DNA models. Additionally, the platform can now generate customized practice quizzes for a variety of subjects and standardized tests, including the SAT, ACT, GRE, and LSAT, utilizing content from partners like The Princeton Review and PhysicsWallah.
A new interactive learning experience via Google Lens is scheduled to roll out globally in English over the coming weeks. This feature allows students to photograph problems or concepts to receive step-by-step explanations and coaching. The integration of notebooks into AI Mode also enables users to organize class-specific materials, such as syllabi and slides, across different Google services.
To support the rollout, Google is offering eligible college students in the United States one year of its Google AI Pro plan for free. This subscription includes increased usage limits, 5TB of storage, and access to Gemini features within applications like Docs and Gmail. Students outside the U.S. are eligible for a free year of Google AI Plus, which includes 400GB of storage and bundled discounts on other services.
