Apple has officially introduced the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, bringing internal hardware updates to its wearable lineup. While the devices retain a design aesthetic similar to their predecessors, both models are powered by the new S11 chip. This processor upgrade is designed to enhance performance, energy efficiency, and support for new AI-driven features within watchOS 27.
A significant, unannounced change identified through Apple's Xcode 27 developer tool is the inclusion of 4GB of RAM in both the Series 12 and Ultra 4. This represents a doubling of memory compared to the 2GB found in the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3. The increased capacity is intended to support advanced functions, including improved Siri capabilities, meeting transcription, and note-taking features.
The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399 for the 42mm model, with a $50 premium for the 46mm version. Apple has also reintroduced a ceramic case option for the Series 12, starting at $899. The Apple Watch Ultra 4, which features a 49mm case, starts at $799 and includes both GPS and 5G connectivity. Despite the memory upgrade, Apple has kept the starting prices for both models consistent with the previous generation.
Health and fitness tracking have received updates, including refined step tracking and a redesigned heart rate app that utilizes a 32-pedal sensor for readings every five seconds. The Vitals app now consolidates health data into a single interface, while new sleep tracking features provide readiness scores to help users manage recovery. Both watches are scheduled to launch on September 18th, coinciding with the release of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max.
