Apple has officially opened its Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston, Texas, marking a new phase in the company's domestic production efforts. The 20,000-square-foot facility is situated within the same complex where Apple currently manufactures its advanced AI servers. During the opening event, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that the site is slated to begin production of the Mac mini later this year.
The center is designed to function as both a manufacturing hub and an educational resource. Apple intends to provide free training sessions for small- and medium-sized businesses, focusing on techniques such as machine-learning-driven quality control and advanced automation. Participants will have access to specialized equipment, including a holographic lab table, to gain experience with processes used in Apple's own product assembly.
Curriculum at the site covers a range of technical topics, including design considerations for printed circuit board assembly and principles for final assembly. Apple engineers will lead workshops that allow attendees to engage with representative production equipment, helping them learn to identify and resolve manufacturing challenges in real time. The company plans to expand this programming to include local college students in the future.
This Houston location is the second U.S.-based manufacturing learning site established by Apple, following the launch of the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit in August 2025. The initiative is part of a broader $600 billion commitment by Apple to support and strengthen the advanced manufacturing sector within the United States. The company has stated that it successfully stood up the Houston factory and began shipping AI servers in less than nine months.
