Apple has expanded its professional laptop lineup with the introduction of the MacBook Pro featuring a new PROLED XDR display. Available in 14.2-inch and 16.3-inch configurations, these machines incorporate tandem OLED technology, which Apple claims delivers superior brightness and contrast compared to previous iterations. The display reaches a peak brightness of 2000 nits for both HDR and SDR content, with a contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 and support for P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces.

A significant departure for the MacBook Pro line is the integration of touch functionality directly into the display panel. Unlike traditional touch overlays, this implementation is built into the screen itself to minimize latency. The system is designed to allow users to interact with creative applications through gestures such as pinching, zooming, and dragging. macOS 27 includes native support for these inputs, translating touch actions into clicks for existing software, while developers can utilize the interface to test iOS and iPadOS applications directly on the hardware.

Performance is driven by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, which support up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage. The thermal architecture has been refined to maintain performance during intensive tasks like 8K video editing and real-time 3D rendering. Despite the increased power, Apple rates the battery life at up to 24 hours. The chassis design has been slimmed down, with the 14-inch model weighing approximately 3 pounds and the 16-inch version at 4 pounds.

Connectivity and utility features have also seen updates, including the addition of three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, and Wi-Fi 7 compatibility. The traditional notch has been replaced by the Dynamic Island, which serves as a hub for system notifications, Live Activities, and Siri. Additionally, the audio system has been upgraded with new woofers and tweeters to provide improved bass and clarity, while the hinge has been adjusted to ensure stability during touch interactions.

The new MacBook Pro models are available for pre-order as of October 28, 2026, with shipping scheduled to begin on November 6. Pricing for the 14-inch model starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch model begins at $3,399. Configurations equipped with the M5 Max chip start at $4,499 and $4,799, respectively. Apple continues its focus on sustainability, constructing the laptops with 55% recycled materials, including 100% recycled aluminum and cobalt.
